The new EMS cornamusen, made from seasoned maple, are available in four sizes, soprano, alto, tenor and bass. The EMS soprano cornamuse has a plastic reed and two upward extension keys, giving a range of c' - f''. • Wenner Baroque Flute after Buffardin le Fils in Grenadilla

    Wenner
    £2,295.00
A new baroque flute model by German maker Martin Wenner. Pierre Gabriel Buffardin (ca. 1690–1768) was one of the most famous flautists of his time and a pioneer of the transverse flute in Germany. From 1715 to 1749, he was the first flutist of the Dresden Hofkapelle, one of the best and most famous orchestras of the time. Buffardin was a colleague of Pisendel, Veracini, Weiss and also Quantz, who he taught. Although it is documented that Buffardin was engaged in flute-making, none of his instruments has survived. It is all the more astonishing that in 2015 this flute with the signature ‘BUFFARDIN LE FILS’ appeared. The flute shows a high level of craftsmanship and represents a symbiosis of French and German flute-making. This flute is characterised by a robust and warm sound, which is enormously carrying. It is excellently suited for the interpretation of High Baroque flute music and is extremely versatile. It is made in grenadilla and is at a=415.

  • Tenor Sackbut by Nartiss

    Nartiss
    £1,595.00
Nartiss tenor sackbut Bb at a=440 including case and extra a=415 tuning slide - lacquered finish. The Early Music Shop is excited to introduce the first of a new range of sackbutts from brass maker Vairis Nartiss The Maker Vairis Nartiss is a professional trombone player from Latvia. His solo career includes playing with the Latvian National Opera Symphony Orchestra, and he also owns his own music store Nartiss LV, one of thelargest music stores in Latvia. Over the years Vairis has become a leading authority on brass instruments. In addition to his solo career he has introduced significant new devices for the trombone such as multi effect processors, loop machines etc. and from the workshops at his music store in Latvia has developed (in addition to the new sackbut) new musical instruments and accessories for contemporary brass instruments including wooden mutes for trumpets and trombone and hand protection for brass instruments to protect them from sweat. The Development The sackbut project started around 2009 – through his research Vairis soon realized that it was very hard to find relatively inexpensive, good quality instruments. Even the second hand market for early brass was poor. The only usual option for players was to buy new instruments, which were very expensive. In 2010 Vairis and his team of craftsmenset about slowly, step-by-step, developing a new sackbut. They tested a lot of features, their ambition always being to get the best sound possible. Finally, earlier in 2012 the instrument was finished. The NARTISS team is happy to offer this first instrument on the International market. The hope is to attract more and more performers – students as well as professionals. The competitive price is certainly something to attract many students, amateurs, teachers and music lovers who would like to play early brass music. The Instrument In the construction of the NARTISS Sackbut there are several innovations. No wire in the bell. It was a big challenge to construct a professional bell with a double layer on the bell but without the inside wire. Why? Essentially the process helps the player to achieve a more colourful sound. Mouthpiece. All the mouthpieces have a rounded lip and are gold plated, The balance between early design and thickness of the walls of the mouthpiece was also examined. The bore here is a little larger which helps to get a more powerful sound. Specifications Bell 111 mm Bore 13.2 mm Yellow Brass bell Hard chrome-plated nickel silver inner slides Double layer bell with no wire on inside edge of the bell 2 tuning slides - 442 Hz (can be tuned to440 Hz) and 415 Hz Gold plated mouthpiece with specially designed lip plate for more comfortable playing Slide: 7 positions on tuning 442Hz 6 positions on tuning 415Hz The Nartiss tenor sackbut comes with mouthpiece, lubricant and 2 tuning slides for a=440 and a=415. It is supplied in a custom made hard case. There is a choice of lacquered finish or antique lacquered finish.

  • Soprano Gemshorn by Cip

    Cip
    £295.00
Czech maker Pavel Cip produces an extremely well made series of gemshorns which are processed and polished very carefully. The block is made of water resistant cedar. The soprano has a chromatic scale with a range of a 9th and a bottom note of C. The gemshorn was in use in the 15th century (there exists an organ stop of that name) and was primarily a pastoral instrument, not widely known after the mid-to-late 1500s until the resurgent interest in early music in the 20th century. The gemshorn is an early form of recorder, made of a cow horn with a fipple inserted at the wide end. It has an incredibly sweet sound due to the conical shape of the horn and has a range of one octave. The name comes from the German "chamois" horn, but the early history not well known, the oldest known illustration of one being seen in Musica Getutscht (1511), by Virdung. N.B. Due to the nature of these instruments each one will have a different appearance depending on the horn used!

  • Kildare Penny Whistle in High D by Susato - S-Series

    Susato
    £59.50
Kildare Penny Whistle in High D by Susato - S-Series Kildare models in high -Eb- and high -D- exist in the -V- and the -S- series. If in doubt, we recommend the -S- series as the richer and fuller sounding version. The -V- series -Eb- and -D- have a slightly smaller body diameter and therefore sound softer. All Kildare models have separate head and body sections with a slightly tapered bore. Pitch can easily be adjusted by pulling jointed sections in or out as needed. Unlike chromatic Recorders, Pennywhistles are diatonic instruments, requiring many sizes to make playing in all keys (tonalities) possible. The most popular sizes used are in the keys of high -D- and low -G-. Whistle body sections of the same series are interchangeable with a head section of the same series. Kildare two-piece models include a fingering chart, thumbrest, joint grease, and a pouch. All whistles above are available in black or rosewood brown. Longer whistles can be played more comfortably with Susato Keys over tone holes too far apart for small hands. Note the Susato Keys on low -C- to low -F#- whistles, the difference in playability is enormous! All Kildare two-piece models include a fingering chart, thumbrest, joint grease, and a carrying pouch. Additonal Susato Keys can be mounted over ANY tone holes that are difficult to reach on any instrument of the -M-, -L-, or -LX- series whistles for an extra $30.00 per key. Keys are placed for right-handed players, but can also be mounted for left-handed playing at no additional cost.
