At The Early Music Shop in Saltaire we have two purpose built teaching studios and are currently offering instrumental tuition on the Viola da Gamba, Recorder, Harp and Lute.

RECORDER - with Mary Tyers

We are delighted to announce further teaching dates with renowned recorder teacher Mary Tyers at the Early Music Showroom, Salts Mill. Lessons are open to all - no experience needed! These 1 hour lessons are on a one-to-one basis and take place on the hour, every hour. Cost £36 per 1 hour lesson.

Mary Tyers is an experienced and enthusiastic teacher, conductor and performer, who delights in helping the amateur musician enjoy and understand the music they both love to play. She has over thirty years’ experience as a teacher; she also tutors on residential courses and summer schools, including NORVIS and HISS; and is in demand as a poplar visiting conductor to SRP branches and festivals.

LUTE - with Jacob Heringman

We are pleased to announce the Autumn 2018  teaching dates with renowned lute player and teacher Jacob Heringman at the Early Music Showroom, Salts Mill. Lessons are open to all - no experience needed! These one hour lessons are on a one-to-one basis and take place on the hour, every hour. Cost £40 per one hour lesson. Jacob Heringman studied with Jakob Lindberg at the Royal College of Music in London, and later with Pat O'Brien in New York. He has established himself as one of the world’s most respected and most innovative solo lute players, and has made many CD and radio recordings of medieval and renaissance music with leading English ensembles, including The Rose Consort of Viols, Fretwork, Musicians of the Globe, The Kings Singers, The New London Consort, Virelai and The Dufay Collective.

VIOL - with Jacqui Robertson-Wade

Jacqui Robertson-Wade has been teaching at the Early Music Shop for 10 years. We are pleased to announce the Autumn term teaching dates at the Early Music Shop showroom, Salts Mill below. Jacqui will be giving individual viol lessons on the following dates to students at any level, and offering instrument demonstrations and customer consultations. Lessons cost £35 and are on the hour every hour. Whether you are a complete beginner or a more advanced player please contact us to book a date and time for your first visit. All are welcome!

Jacqui Robertson-Wade was first introduced to the viol at Trinity College of Music in 1980 while studying ‘cello there. Later as a mature student, Jacqui returned to Trinity with a scholarship to study the specialist repertoire of late French viols, including the pardessus de viole. She has been described by the Birmingham Post as a player who uses the expressive potential of the bass viol to full effect in her performance of Marais’ Folies d’Espagne. 
Jacqui has worked with various ensembles in the midlands, including Musica Leonarda and for the Royal Shakespeare Company.A pioneer in the world of viol teaching for children, Jacqui established viol tuition for Warwickshire Music Service 10 years ago. She directs various childrens’ consorts many of which have received national recognition and commendation in the National Festival of Music for Youth.   Jacqui is a regular tutor for Norvis, the Early Music for Youth Summer School, the Viola da Gamba Society`s Summer School and also directs courses at Farncombe Centre for Lifelong Learning. 

HARP - with Alice Kirwan and Rhian Evans

We are pleased to announce the 2018 Autumn term harp teaching dates at the Early Music Shop Showroom, Salts Mill with our regular teachers Rhian Evans and Alice Kirwan.  These individual lessons are open to all players, from beginner to advanced. Harps will be provided where necessary. These are individual one-to-one lessons and last an hour, the cost is £35.
