  • TPW Italian Virginal Kit - by The Paris Workshop

    The Paris Workshop
    £5,995.00
TPW Italian Virginal Kit by The Paris Workshop - supplied in kit form for home assembly. TPW Italian Virginal Kit 56+1 notes: GG–d''', transposable A392/A415/A440 , in version 1 with lid, flap, music desk and turned stand The Italian Virginal is our latest design, inspired by an unusual original instrument from the early 18th century with an inset keyboard. The characteristic virginal tone emanating from the extra enclosed space at the right hand of the keyboard truly envelops the player. (There is a tool box at the corresponding left hand of the keyboard.) The case is of “false inner-outer” construction with the inner natural maple veneers contrasted against the painted lime exterior. We have increased the versatility for modern players by fitting a fully chromatic keyboard, and allowing for transposition both up to A440 without the loss of the top note, and down to A392. This is a most interesting instrument to build and play, and very suitable for musicians of all standards to explore the repertoire. The photograph shows the prototype with cherry inner veneers. • TPW Flemish Single Harpsichord Kit after Ruckers by The Paris Workshop

    The Paris Workshop
    £7,995.00- £14,995.00
TPW Flemish Single Harpsichord Kit after Ruckers by The Paris Workshop supplied in kit form for home assembly. TPW Flemish Single Harpsichord Kit after Ruckers - 56+1 notes GG-d''', transposable A392/A415/A440 without loss of d''' The harpsichords built by the Ruckers family were famous throughout Europe in the 17th- and 18th-centuries, their clear and precise sound as much admired then as now. The Ruckers Flemish Single Harpsichord has many benefits. It is relatively small, light and easy to move. Its tuning is stable, and the transposing keyboard permits performance with either baroque or modern instruments. The instrument is available with traditional Flemish disposition of 8'+4', or two unison registers 2x8’ (please specify when placing your order). This style was mostly the result of later builders enlarging the earlier instruments to make them correspond to the demands of the 18th-century. The Ruckers Single is also available with the 2x8', 1x4' disposition, making it a little more challenging to build and giving it the same soundboard layout as the Ruckers Double. The photograph shows the Ruckers Single with the optional traditional bone keyboard (not included, but available as an extra). The kit includes a standard harpsichord stand (as shown in the photograph). Harpsichord Kit Options: Version 1, standard, ready to assemble Version 2, case assembled, reverse keyboard, 2 x 8´ or 8´+4´ Version 3, soundboard installed Version 4, woodwork completed, 2x8´, reverse keyboard Version 4, woodwork completed, 8´+4´, reverse keyboard Version 4, woodwork completed, 3 registers, 2x8´, 1x4´, reverse keyboard Other options available to special order – please ask for details. TPW Unfretted Clavichord Kit after Gerlach School by The Paris Workshop - supplied in kit form for home assembly. TPW Unfretted Clavichord with 61 notes: FF-f''', A415, double strung It was frequently observed in the past that a good clavichordist would make a good harpsichordist, but not necessarily the reverse. The mechanism is very simple: The brass tangents are set in the ends of each key, and strike the pairs of strings as well as determine their speaking length The imposing Unfretted Clavichord, with its individual pairs of strings for each note, is suitable for much 18th-century music, even including the early piano repertoire up to Beethoven. The Paris Workshop
    £4,795.00- £6,095.00
TPW Spinet Kit after Delin School by The Paris Workshop - supplied in kit form for home assembly. TPW Spinet Kit after Delin School - 56+1 notes: GG-d''', transposable A415/A440 without the loss of d''' The Spinet was inspired by an original instrument dated 1770, built by Albertus Delin (1712-1771) in Tournai and now preserved in the Brussels Musical Instrument Museum. We have slightly modified the original specification to provide a 56-note keyboard which allows transposition to A440 without the loss of the top note. This model was originally intended to be only available as a finished instrument, but as we proceeded with the development of the prototypes, we found it ideal as a kit for many reasons. The ease of construction and the low price assist the first-time builder, and for a player beginning to explore the fascinating world of early keyboards, here is an instrument with good tone, pleasant touch, and a keyboard compass sufficient for perhaps 90% of the repertoire. Spinet Kit Options: Version 1 standard, ready to assemble Version 1 with Option 1 - Flap on the keyboard, Mouldings to the top of the case & Turned legs (3) Version 1 with Option 2 - Reverse keyboard with arcades Version 1 with Option 1 & 2 - Flap on the keyboard, Mouldings to the top of the case, Turned legs (3) & Reverse keyboard with arcades For more details about this or any other kit from The Paris Workshop, please do not hesitate to contact us. • TPW Italian Neapolitan Single Harpsichord Kit by The Paris Workshop

    The Paris Workshop
    £6,195.00- £10,495.00
TPW Italian Neapolitan Single Harpsichord Kit by The Paris Workshop supplied in kit form for home assembly. TPW Italian Neapolitan Single Harpsichord Kit - 4 9+1 notes: C–c''', transposable A392/A415/A440 The Neapolitan Harpsichord was inspired by originals by Bocalari dating from the end of the 17th-century. The case is in poplar with a spruce soundboard, and is of "false inner-outer" construction, tricking the eye into believing that this is an instrument resting in an independent external case. This conceit is enhanced by the contrast of the inner natural wood against the painted exterior. Our case is built in traditional Italian manner around the bottom, with the sides reinforced by knees and framing. We use the expected 2x8' disposition of the Italian harpsichord, without buff. The two unison choirs are permanently engaged, and while there is no provision to change registration, one can move either of the traditional boxguide registers to disengage a choir, perhaps to facilitate tuning. The keyboard of the original had a short octave bass, but we took the opportunity to extend the bass to fully chromatic from C. The instrument is delivered with a lid and fallboard, music desk, and a turned stand in traditional Italian style. This exciting harpsichord has a precise touch, and a bright and pure sound with pronounced attack. It makes an ideal continuo instrument and provides inspiration for the incredible solo Italian keyboard repertoire. Harpsichord Kit Options: Version 1 standard, ready to assemble, including stand and music desk Version 3, soundboard installed Version 4, all woodwork completed Other options available to special order – please ask for details. TPW French "Junior" Single Harpsichord Kit after Denis School - 56+1 notes: GG-d''', transposable A415/A440 without the loss of d''' The French "Junior" Single kit has proved very popular in the short time since its inception. Engineered for ease of construction, it makes available the famous high quality of our parts at an affordable price. To facilitate your project, we have simplified the elements that are not essential to the sound quality or stability of the structure, as well as those that serve mainly ornamental function like any ornate veneers or elaborate mouldings. Starting with the pleasantly Italianate instruments of the early French school, TPW have extended the compass to 56 notes to allow the performance of J.S. Bach. This harpsichord is not only ideal for beginners, but also for more advanced musicians wanting to explore the early keyboard repertoire. Of course, it also transposes, so you can play with those friends who might still have modern pitch instruments!
