  • Sopranino Gemshorn by Cip

    Cip
    £255.00
Czech maker Pavel Cip produces an extremely well made series of gemshorns which are processed and polished very carefully. The block is made of water resistant cedar. The sopranino has a chromatic scale with a range of a 9th and a bottom note of F. The gemshorn was in use in the 15th century (there exists an organ stop of that name) and was primarily a pastoral instrument, not widely known after the mid-to-late 1500s until the resurgent interest in early music in the 20th century. The gemshorn is an early form of recorder, made of a cow horn with a fipple inserted at the wide end. It has an incredibly sweet sound due to the conical shape of the horn and has a range of one octave. The name comes from the German "chamois" horn, but the early history not well known, the oldest known illustration of one being seen in Musica Getutscht (1511), by Virdung. N.B. Due to the nature of these instruments each one will have a different appearance depending on the horn used!

  • Kildare 2 Piece Penny Whistle in Low G by Susato - M-Series

    Susato
    £95.00
Kildare 2 Piece Penny Whistle in Low G by Susato - M-Series Kildare models in high -Eb- and high -D- exist in the -V- and the -S- series. If in doubt, we recommend the -S- series as the richer and fuller sounding version. The -V- series -Eb- and -D- have a slightly smaller body diameter and therefore sound softer. All Kildare models have separate head and body sections with a slightly tapered bore. Pitch can easily be adjusted by pulling jointed sections in or out as needed. Unlike chromatic Recorders, Pennywhistles are diatonic instruments, requiring many sizes to make playing in all keys (tonalities) possible. The most popular sizes used are in the keys of high -D- and low -G-. Whistle body sections of the same series are interchangeable with a head section of the same series. Kildare two-piece models include a fingering chart, thumbrest, joint grease, and a pouch. All whistles above are available in black or rosewood brown. Longer whistles can be played more comfortably with Susato Keys over tone holes too far apart for small hands. Note the Susato Keys on low -C- to low -F#- whistles, the difference in playability is enormous! All Kildare two-piece models include a fingering chart, thumbrest, joint grease, and a carrying pouch. Additonal Susato Keys can be mounted over ANY tone holes that are difficult to reach on any instrument of the -M-, -L-, or -LX- series whistles for an extra $30.00 per key. Keys are placed for right-handed players, but can also be mounted for left-handed playing at no additional cost.

  • Silverwood Flute – Blackwood Head, Green Body

    Millyard
    £190.00
The Silverwood flute is in the key of D and has a tuneable hardwood head combined with an aluminium body to give all the advantages of more expensive wooden flutes, but at a much more affordable price. Click here to download a fingering chart The wooden head on the Silverwood flute is crafted to give players the authentic feel and sound of a wooden head joint based on the famous Rudall Rose flutes much loved by players of Celtic music. The aluminium body has a couple of great advantages. It is of course very robust and has a nice bright tone, but since it is of a smaller diameter than a wooden flute, the finger holes are much more easily reached by players with smaller hands. The finger holes are also set out on the flute with smaller hands in mind. A great choice as a starter flute, or as a keyless flute to have in your gig bag. This flute has a blackwood head and green body. It comes with a simple bag and a tube of grease to keep the joint between the head and body lubricated.

  • Susato Penny Whistle in Bb

    Susato
    £95.00
Susato Penny Whistle in Bb Susato whistles are designed by George Kelischek and manufactured in our own shop in Brasstown, North Carolina. Susato whistles feature a number of innovations that add up to create a truly excellent instrument. The whistles are easy to play, with a bright and responsive sound that many professional musicians prefer. Our pennywhistles are played all around the world! All models feature a curved wind-way which contributes to a rich, bright sound and easy overblowing into the higher octave. Our Susato key system makes longer, lower voiced whistles playable without undue stretch and hand fatigue. Oval tone holes are used where those are easier to cover than round holes. Customers can purchase economical whistle sets by choosing one head section and multiple bodies. Two piece models make transport and storage of longer, lower pitched whistles easier. Two piece models allow pitch adjustment by pulling the joint in or out. Unlike metal whistles, ABS plastic does not conduct heat as fast as metal and maintains a more stable pitch with temperature changes. ABS plastic is highly durable and impervious to moisture. Serrated joints on Kildare models retain joint grease much longer and allow for repeatable fine tuning changes. The adjustable snap-on thumbrest can be moved to a preferred position for comfortable playing.
