Mollenhauer 5920E Modern alto (treble) in f', palisander, with E-foot joint and triple key e/f/#. This design was the product of collaboration between recorder virtuoso Nikolaj Tarasov and recorder maker Joachim Paetzold. A little longer than the conventional alto, it gives these lower notes a significantly more powerful sound than is usual on alto recorders and secondly, enables notes in the third octave to be played much more easily than on a conventional alto. It has a strong, warm and very expressive sound that makes it a versatile instrument capable of playing music from the 18th century to present day. The recorder has a SYNPOR block, a synthetic block similar to cedar, which imitates the molecular structure of wood and which can absorb moisture humidity through its micropores. This Renaissance model is based on drawings taken from 'Syntagma Musicum' (1618) by Michael Praetorius. Kobliczek recorders are made by German maker Christoph Hammann and his team. These Renaissance recorders have large cylindrical bores which produce a characteristically strong tone. Made from stained maple, this recorder has excellent intonation over a full two octave range. The bore shape is based on concepts that were developed in the Denner family workshop, in particular by Jacob Denner. The Denner family from Nuremberg were one of the most important and influential woodwind makers. Modern processes have made it possible to achieve a sound quality that was previously only a characteristic of low-pitch baroque instruments. Balanced and stable intonation across all the registers are the basis for the versatility of the refined sound. The characteristically direct voicing combines lightness and brilliance with focused airflow. An extensive amount of time is dedicated to crafting these exclusive instruments. Every instrument is voiced over a long period of time – periods of intense playing alternate with phases of fine tuning. The exceptional E3 "Eagle" alto recorder came into being as the result of a search for a unique alto recorder and the cooperation between Adriana Breukink, Geri Bollinger and the recorder manufacture Küng. The wide bore, the metal labium, the octave key for the high registers and the key system with e’ foot extension provide for a full and powerful sound. To allow for ensemble playing with modern instruments, the E3 has a strong lower register and a chromatic range of over 2½ octaves.
