Mollenhauer Kynseker 4208 alto recorder in g in plumwood. A full renaissance sound with much character and depth, baroque fingering, and a range of two octaves. Suitable for renaissance or early baroque consort music as well as solo music from early and modern periods.

The production of a complete consort of recorders after the design by Hieronymus F. Kynseker (1636-1686), in the German National Museum in Nuremberg, is perhaps one of Mollenhauer’s finest achievements. Faithful to the originals, the instruments have a narrow arched windway, a strong sound that is particularly noteworthy in the lower register and a full two octave range using fingering similar to the baroque system.

Recorder supplied with leather bag, mop, fingering chart and maintenance instructions.

A great recorder - even tone and confident

It takes a little time to get the learn how to get the full tone out of the lower two or so notes (or perhaps for the instrument to be played in), but after that this instrument gives a wonderfully even tone through two octaves. It is bright, sounds confident, and is my favourite of the Kynseker range, even surpassing the Alto in F, bizarre though that may sound

Near even tone over two octaves

This is my favourite of Mollenhauer's Kynseker models, although why it should it be any better than say the Alto in F is perhaps down to minute differences in manufacture of the two that I happen to have, rather than any fundamental differences in the near identical recorders. Getting a strong tone from the lower two notes takes a little practice, but after that the sound is remarkably even through two octaves ( and a bit).

Lovely Recorder in G

I’m very pleased to have this recorder in G. It’s a lovely instrument and I was especially happy to find an affordable alternative for a G-alto.
