Kobliczek Renaissance G-Alto in Maple

1 review
£454.17 excluding VAT (UK Export Price)

This Renaissance model is based on drawings taken from 'Syntagma Musicum' (1618) by Michael Praetorius. Kobliczek recorders are made by German maker Christoph Hammann and his team. These Renaissance recorders have large cylindrical bores which produce a characteristically strong tone. Made from stained maple, this recorder has excellent intonation over a full two octave range. This renaissance recorder has single holes but uses standard baroque fingering.

This G-alto recorder is supplied in a soft case with cork grease, cleaning rod and fingering chart.

N.B. This renaissance alto (in G) is in 2-pieces.

A lovely instrument

This good-looking Alto in G has a clear bright tone , excellent intonation over a full two octaves, and is very responsive. It does not require lots of air (as some Renaissance instruments do) and is ideal for Gastoldi and Ferrabosco, Van Eyck (which I think it suits very well), but also for lots of Boismortier and Hotteterre, as well as Jacobean music. Perfect as a solo instrument, but blends perfectly with other recorders, including Baroque instruments, with which it is easy to achieve a balance - in fact, there is much Baroque music for which this is ideally suited. Half-holing the lowest two notes takes a bit of practice, but I was able to take the instrument out of the box, fit the two pieces together, and start playing at once, producing a very pleasant and pure tone. I am sure I will use this instrument a lot, and I can thoroughly recommend it.
