We are grateful to David Parsons, the well known lutenist, for his guidance in designing this theorbo (bass lute). The instrument is a large chitarrone/theorbo of early 17th century and pattern based on a surviving instrument by Beuchenberg with 6 fingered single courses and 8 diapasons. Each instrument is individually set up and fully serviced by our luthier prior to despatch. Fitted with Aquila Nylgut strings as standard, however our luthier can set up the instrument with Aquila Nylgut for an additional £195. Includes a padded case, but a hard case is available for better long-term protection. String length: 88.5cms (fingerboard) 159.3cms (bass). We recommend the 195cm Aquila Nylgut Elastic strings for the bass strings. This instrument is inspired by a lute made by Wendelio Venere in 1582. The bowl consists of 13 ribs made of yew and black (maple) spacers. The neck has a solid spruce core and is veneered with ebony. The sides of the neck are planed and replaced with solid ebony for durability. The cheeks of the pegbox are solid maple veneered with yew; the back of the pegbox is closed with ebony. The fingerboard is also ebony and the bridge is pearwood that has been dyed. The pegs are hand turned and made of boxwood as well as the endpin. The bowl is varnished with the french polishing technique. The instrument has a string length of 59,5 cm and is strung with Aquila Nylgut and Aquila CD strings. The pitch is a440. The lute comes with a 35mm padded semi-rigid lightweight case.

Since 2001 he started working together with Stefano Zanderighi, a project that would eventually led to the birth of the Liuteria d’Insieme workshop in 2003. His work is characterised by great care in researching on original models and early building and painting methods. The instruments he builds are distinguished by their great fidelity to original models without losing sight of building details and characterised by a rich and dynamic sound.

In the late eighteenth century and before, there was a family of guitar builders under the name Voboam. Almost every instrument was richly decorated and obviously made to order for wealthy discerning customers. This guitar is based on the guitars of Alexander Voboam, who was active in Paris around 1684. Our Voboam guitar is based on the instrument depicted in Jan Vermeer's famous painting "De gitaarspeelster", which unequivocally shows a Voboam guitar, and surviving examples found in the Ashmolean Museum. The back is made of alternate ribs of walnut and lacewood. The soundboard is from Sitka spruce with walnut banding. Supplied with a semi-rigid padded bag. The string length is 59/88 cm with single strings on the basses. The bowl is made from 15 ribs of maple and walnut, the top is high mountain Austrian spruce and the rose is the same as in the original instrument. The original string length of 59cm makes it a great 7 course lute. The bowl has 13 ribs of Pearwood with Ebony spacers. The top is made from the finest Austrian high mountain spruce with the original carved rose design. The neck core is also spruce and veneered with pearwood. Baroque Guitar after Marianita by Matias Crom The "Marianita" is a 5 course baroque guitar inspired on the "Vihuela de Quito" with a playing string length of 68cm. The top is made from the finest mountain Austrian Spruce with the original purfling decoration and rose design. This simple yet elegant rose makes this guitar very resonant. Sides are made in 5 pieces using walnut and cypress and the back is coopered as many were from this period and made with 15 ribs of cypress with thin walnut spacers. The neck is carved from pearwood just like the original. 8 Course Renaissance Lute after Tieffenbrucker by Matias Crom Inspired on the lute by Wendelin Tieffenbrucker in the "Cite de la Musique" museum in Paris. This maker was the "Stradivari" of lute making and this model is maybe the most iconic of lutes in present time. The original string length of 64cm makes a great 8 course lute. The neck and nut sizes were changed from the original 14 course lute to accommodate 8 courses. The bowl has 9 ribs of made either Maple or Cypr es s wood with Ebony spacers. The top is made from the finest Austrian high mountain spruce with the original carved rose design. Neck core is also spruce veneered with maple.
