Our exclusive Heritage Baroque guitar has a coopered back and sides and is fitted with Aquila Nylgut strings. It is an attractive instrument with a bright, clear tone. Watch a demonstration of its playing possibilities by Jacob Heringman below.

We set up these instruments to play at baroque pitch, a415, however they also are well suited to modern pitch by simply changing the strings.

  • String length: 688mm
  • Tuning: e', b' g', d, a'
  • Includes a semi-rigid gig case

Our baroque guitar is tuned with standard re-entrant tuning - the 5th course is higher than the 4th course d. The 4th course is in octaves, with the higher string on the left as recommended by Stradivarius. Find our recommended stringing for this guitar.

EMS Heritage Baroque Guitar

I’ve owned this guitar for nearly four weeks now, and I like it more and more every day. It’s very sensitive and responsive, with a beautifully clear and bright sound. The action height is perfect, the tuning is stable and pegs are well-made and fitted (they benefited from a little french chalk to stop slipping at first). The whole guitar is beautifully made, immaculate joinery throughout. A really excellent instrument, thoroughly recommended. My main instrument is renaissance lute - I’ve been playing for nearly 50 years - and this is my first experience of the baroque guitar. I wish I’d come to it earlier!

Embarking in strings

I'm a wind instrument player, but Breathlessness due to long covid means I had to trade in my crumhorn, and move to strings. I spent an hour plus playing with the range of instruments and having a real opportunity to decide what best to pick up. The overall experience was positive and welcoming.

Heritage Baroque Guitar

I am happy with the baroque guitar I ordered. The prices were reasonable and the staff were very helpful. The transportation I was worried about was perfect and I was able to trade with peace of mind. The body of the instrument is very beautifully decorated and the sound is very good. The string height is just right and easy to play. I think I made a very good purchase.

Love it

Plays well, friction pegs keep in tune perfectly, and craftsmanship is beautiful. I love this instrument, and used it to sing old Catalan and Occitan songs for a church Christmas party.
