Indeed a good instrument

Premise: I am a teacher, performer, and a musicologist. The instrument I had purchased from EMS is my 12th instrument. 1) As a professional, I am favorably impressed about the playablility and the sound of this lute. 2) Gig bag is fine, Ilike it. 3) Nylon frets? No way! I was truly disappointed to see such thing! You could have scored 5 stars if you had put gut frets on it. Anyways, overall it was a good purchase. P.S. I had to pay 250 Euros of Custom Fee. Can you believe It? Of course, this is none of your fault!

Stunning

I've desired to purchase a lute for years. I finally got around to it and I'm blown away by the craftmanship of the instrument. I was surprised it didn't get out of tune very much when it arrive (I'm from the United States). Overall I'm satisfied with it and I'm excited to begin this journey of learning how to play this stunning instrument.

A Veritable Touch

I purchased this lute as a teaching instrument, although the delicacy of a period lute rather eliminates its use as a loaner instrument. This instrument rewards the "touch" so often spoken of by 16th century writers. In my community theater setting, it is adequate for indoor use in a small room--not for outdoor performance. It reminds us that the lute is a private instrument that rewards those intimately close to it. Should we ever revive playing in a consort around a table we may achieve one of its ntended uses: music among friends. We have forgotten this aspect of 16th-century music in our celebration of amplification and concert halls. This lute reminds us where it belongs.

More than a student lute...

This instrument arrived in excellent condition with a perfect setup. Although the frets are nylon, there is no string buzzing down the fingerboard. The tuning peg heads are a bit small so I use a Sitar Narka tuning tool to tune the lute. The Narka is used to tune the sympathetic strings on a sitar which also have small pegs. Very easy and precise tuning whilst using a Narka. String spacing at the nut and bridge is spot-on. The included semi-rigid gig back is excellent. In terms of sound, the mids and highs are very clear and balanced. The bass is a bit light. Volume and resonance is very nice for an instrument at this price point. I was surprised that it came with Aquila Nylgut strings. Most entry-level lutes come with cheaper, no-name nylon strings. This is a very nice instrument, excellent at its price point. The only thing missing is a maker's label inside the body under the rose. Every instrument should have one.
