  • Silverwood Flute – Boxwood Head, Blue Body

    Millyard
    £190.00
The Silverwood flute is in the key of D and has a tuneable hardwood head combined with an aluminium body to give all the advantages of more expensive wooden flutes, but at a much more affordable price. Click here to download a fingering chart The wooden head on the Silverwood flute is crafted to give players the authentic feel and sound of a wooden head joint based on the famous Rudall Rose flutes much loved by players of Celtic music. The aluminium body has a couple of great advantages. It is of course very robust and has a nice bright tone, but since it is of a smaller diameter than a wooden flute, the finger holes are much more easily reached by players with smaller hands. The finger holes are also set out on the flute with smaller hands in mind. A great choice as a starter flute, or as a keyless flute to have in your gig bag. This flute has a boxwood head and blue body. It comes with a simple bag and a tube of grease to keep the joint between the head and body lubricated.

  • Mollenhauer Denner Alto Recorder in Olivewood

    Mollenhauer
    £740.00
Mollenhauer 5223 Denner alto f', olivewood. In 2002, three years after the death of perhaps one of the greatest recorder makers Fred Morgan, Mollenhauer and the Morgan family began working together on a design of Denner alto to add to Mollenhauer’s already established and award winning Denner series. This partnership has resulted in high quality, well designed instruments becoming available to a wide circle of players. Morgan based his alto design on an instrument by Jacob Denner (1681-1735) from the Copenhagen Museum and undertook the complicated task of converting it into an instrument at a=440 whilst still retaining the essential characteristics of the original design. After years of careful research he designed a brilliant instrument that was faithful to the original in all but pitch. Based on this design, Mollenhauer present an instrument whose design features include a specially stabilised block to help prevent swelling and blocking and a curved windway with concave internal surfaces to make tonal variation easier to produce. With a clear upper octave and stable low notes this instrument also has a clear and full tone. The Mollenhauer Denner series (soprano) won the highly acclaimed German Music Instrument award in 1999. This recorder comes with a cotton bag with leather trim, cleaning rod and cloth, cork grease, fingering chart and maintenance instructions. • Wenner Baroque Flute after Palanca in Grenadilla (a415)

    Wenner
    £2,295.00- £2,395.00
This handmade baroque flute after Palanca by German maker Martin Wenner is our best-selling baroque flute. It is perfect for beginners to the baroque flute, especially modern flautists, due to its oval embouchure. Wenner's Palanca flute is a universal instrument that covers a wide-range of flute repertoire. It is especially suited for music by Locatelli, Platti, Händel and also J. S. Bach. As such, it is highly recommended by all the baroque flute teachers at UK music conservatoires! Carlo Palanca was an active bassoon player and instrument maker in Turin, where he died aged 95 in 1783. Unlike other baroque flutes, Palanca's instrument has an oval embouchure which gives a more powerful sound than a round embouchure. The original Palanca flute, in a private collection in Frankfurt, is made of ebony which focusses the sound even more. Nevertheless, it is not a “crude” instrument, but rather offers the player a wide range of tonal shades. The usually very muted cross-fingered notes such as F, G# and Bb are especially robust and dense on this flute. This flute is made in grenadilla with like the original has a strong, direct sound. It comes with a decorative, handmade soft case and Wenner's care oil. Wenner's Palanca model is also available in European boxwood .
