This week we've chosen one of the versions of Pavaen Lachrymae by Jacob Van Eyck from his Der Fluyten Lust-hof. This week the competition is sponsored by Mollenhauer and the prize up for grabs is a Mollenhauer Denner soprano recorder in grenadilla worth £395!

This week it's soprano week and we're including all the small recorders, so that's sopranos (descants), sopranos and garkleins. Mary-Jannet Leith introduces the soprano recorder for us and takes us through its history and the developments in its design.

Today we're launching our first competition of Recorder31. Every Saturday in August will be the start of a week-long recorder playing competition.
