For advanced recorder players or teachers of the recorder at advanced level

I have been playing all my life, and so my bad habits are probably well ingrained, and this book is probably not for me. Although I have been playing pieces up to about grade 6, after trying to put some of the advice in this book into effect, I found my playing (specifically due to the way I held the instrument and fingered the notes) sounded much worse. There is a lot of useful information and advice here, but I think it has to be learnt and applied when one first begins to take playing the recorder seriously. One thing I thought was good was the way in which the general principles can be applied to all sizes of the instrument. I now play simply for my own pleasure, and am not likely to use the book again, but I will pass it on to my daughter, who teaches music, and may get more use from it.

Getting better all the time…

I am an amateur recorder player aspiring to advance. I have not yet digested the Hauwe books, and I expect it will take me a while to do so. But I chose them because of their detail, illustrations, precise instructions and discussions, exercises, and their reputation. I anticipate them being beneficial. Currently I am studying volume 1 and I am not dissapointed.
