An Urtext edition of Bach's French Suites for keyboard. The most important and only autograph source of the French Suites, the Klavierbüchlein für Anna Magdalena Bach (1722) contains the first three suites in fragments only, and the sixth not at all. This is why the numerous copies which have come down to us, are of special significance. Among the copies of major importance is the manuscript which for a long time had been attributed to Bach, and which comprises the first for suites in full (Deutsche Staastsbibliothek, Berlin) as well as the copy by Gerber (1725-26) and the second volume of the Klavierbüchlein für Anna Magdalene Bach (1925). The author of this volume, the outstanding Hungarian baroque flute and recorder player János Bali, has undertaken no less than to provide a guide for bewildered recorder players; teachers and students, amateurs and professional musicians alike; faced with the extremely intriguing but difficult question: How should baroque pieces be ornamented? The answers are given by contemporary musicians themselves; the collection contains only contemporary ornaments (and richly ornamented pieces and movements) selected from the repertoire of the period between 1550 and 1760, that is, from the late Renaissance, through the various national styles of early and mature baroque, right up to rococo. In the score the original melody of each work or movement and several different ornamented versions of the same melody can be found one below the other, thus the various possible modes of ornamentation can easily be compared. In the extremely valuable and informative introductory study, János Bali provides a basic historical survey of the subject and offers useful practical advice to musicians using the collection; at the end of the volume he includes, almost in their entirety, the tables of ornamentation compiled by G. L. Conforto (1693) and J. J. Quantz (1752).

Introduction to the Avantgarde is designed to arouse interest in contemporary music and create a personal relationship with unconventional forms of music and music-making among the age group most receptive to these, that is, elementary school children. The pieces that feature in it are in widely differing styles and by composers of different ages and levels of recognition: János Bali, Ádám Kondor, Gábor Kósa, György Kurtág Jr., Csaba Laurán, Dóra Pétery, Vera Rönkös, László Sáry, András Soós, Máté Szigeti and Péter Tornyai .

This is a collection of ballet movements selected from Händel's operas Il pastor fido, Alcina, Almira and Rodrigo , and arranged as four "opera suites", in accordance with the practice of the period. The volume is intended for music school students: some of the pieces can be mastered after just a year or two of recorder study, from among the more difficult ones the more advanced students can select the pieces that best suit their level of ability.

In France at the beginning of the 18th century the transverse flute became very popular, and dozens of volumes of suites were published for one flute or more (with or without bass). On the title-page of many publications of that period the violin, oboe and recorder are mentioned as alternative instruments, on the recorder the pieces generally have to be played a minor third higher. This volume offers a selection of works by the best French wind composers (Hotteterre, Pierre Philidor, La Barre, Montéclair), transposed for the recorder. It includes Hotteterre's well-known D minor suite, as far as we know, this is the first printed edition in which the 'Passacaille' can be played without page-turning.
