The Soprano Chalumeau by Kunath is based on an original instrument with its narrow bore. However, it has not been developed to be a copy, but a contemporary interpretation of old models, with significant improvements. The mouthpiece is an E-flat clarinet mouthpiece. This means that E-flat clarinet reeds are compatible.

PO ref. PO1502S Erik Martens Alto Chalumeau in G (Previously Owned) in 'brand new' condition, purchased from the maker himself. This chalumeau by English maker Erik Martens is keyless, with a parallel bore and is fitted with a modern plastic Yamaha Eb mouthpiece. The sound is mellow and an octave lower than that of an alto recorder. The wood used is sycamore. Supplied with reed and cloth bag. Cotton thread is used to hold the reed onto the mouthpiece, as it would have been done on the original instruments.
