Recorder31 Day 25 | WIN a Moeck Rottenburgh Soprano in our 'Consort –1' Challenge!

Recorder31 Day 25 | WIN a Moeck Rottenburgh Soprano in our 'Consort –1' Challenge!

It's time for the final competition of this year's Recorder31! We're so grateful to you all for submitting your entries and our team are looking forward to hearing your playing when all the competitions are judged together in early September. For now, here's one more chance to win a new instrument – and a slightly different challenge to enter!

Consort–1 Challenge

This week, we're providing you with the two lowest parts of a three-part consort piece by Palestrina. All you need to do is add the top part!

Simply film yourself playing along to the recording and submit it – we'll choose our favourite interpretation to receive this week's star prize!

There's various different ways you could choose to do it – such as filming on a phone while playing along to the recording on your computer, or layering it onto the track in your favourite audio software. The important thing to note is that we won't be judging you on recording quality – we're interested in the performance and this will be the basis of the judges' decision. Your recording doesn't need to be high tech!

The Music

Use one of the recordings below to complete your entry – we've provided two versions, one with a low consort and one with a high consort, so please feel free to choose whichever fits with the instrument you are using to record.

The Prize

Courtesy of our friends at Moeck, we're excited to offer this fantastic Rottenburgh Soprano recorder in boxwood as this week's prize. Worth £290, this instrument comes complete with a hard case and a maintenance kit including recorder oil and anti-condense fluid.

The Rottenburgh range is an incredibly popular range of recorders originally designed by Friederich von Huene after models by Belgian maker Jean-Hyacinth-Joseph Rottenburgh (1672-1756). They are versatile, reliable and used by all levels of players who enjoy instruments made to consistently high standards. The Rottenburgh remains one of The Early Music Shop's best sellers and is one of the most prevalent ranges of recorders in the world. The Rottenburgh is the ideal all rounder: reliable, balanced and with a full tone. The boxwood model features a clear, rounded tone suitable for ensemble playing, and is beautifully bright and expressive as a solo instrument.
