About the prize

Our fantastic prize is a Mollenhauer Dream Edition Alto Recorder in Plumwood. The photos with today's post show the very instrument that will be won.

Due to their characteristic wide bore and full, round sound, Dream Edition recorders are also suitable for demanding solo recorder repertoire. These hand-finished instruments in European plumwood with maple decorative rings combine a colourful rich sound with a stable tone. Baroque fingering and double holes provide surprising agility.

Produced in collaboration with reputable Dutch recorder maker Adriana Breukink, the Dream range is a popular choice of instrument with all levels of player. They produce a sound that is full and powerful like the renaissance originals but with an easy response over two octaves. The Dream recorder is also popular with folk musicians who require a louder instrument for performance with amplified instruments.

The instrument is supplied with a luxury leather bag, mop, cork grease, fingering chart and maintenance instructions.

Comments

R. Lutz - September 1, 2024

I would play Telemann’s Fantasia No. 7.

Ile Ashcroft - August 31, 2024

I’d play ‘Simple Gifts’ folk song. It was one of my father’s favourites. He was a fantastic recorder player, but we still loved this. It always reminds me of him.

Jill - August 30, 2024

The first piece I would play is The Fool On The Hill, by The Beatles. It’s not Renaissance but I have always loved this tune on the recorder.

Jean - August 30, 2024

I would meet up with a friend and play Loeillet de Gant’s Sonata in A minor for two trebles.

Jennifer Yeung - August 30, 2024

I will start with a Telemann Sonata, with its should be a beautiful high pitched entry.

Anne - August 29, 2024

I would play Van Eyk’s Daphne

Rachel Porteous - August 29, 2024

The first piece that I would play would be a version of “David of the White Rock” that I play with my recorder group, where there is a lovely part for the treble.

Jared L - August 29, 2024

1st piece Schickhardt Sonata in A minor Op. 17 no 12

Liz M - August 29, 2024

I think the first thing I’d play is the melody from the De Lesseps’ Dance in Shakespeare in Love. I’ve mostly worked it out by ear, but would love to be able to play it on a design of recorder which is more appropriate to the time.

María Paulla - August 29, 2024

I’ll be playing the Concerto for 4 Recorders and Continuo by Johann Christian Schickhardt… and be the envy of the other 3 players, hehehe.
