Dream Edition Alto In Plumwood

While I only play recorder for myself, I decided to upgrade to a quality wooden recorder. After much research and watching many YouTube videos (thank you Sarah Jefferies/Team Recorder), I ordered the Dream Edition Alto In Plumwood from The Early Music Shop. It arrived in about 10 days to California from the UK. Right out of the package this recorder sounded wonderful. As I am playing it in, it is sounding better and better. I really cannot describe in words how much I love the tone. I have only had it a couple of weeks and I am finding it hard not overplay it during break-in. I was concerned that this is a two part recorder, without a separate foot joint, and was worried about the position of my little finger to the lowest tone hole. My thumb to little finger span is 9.25 inches (23.5 cm). The location of the tone hole is just fine and it is very comfortable to play. Someone with a smaller span my want to try the recorder before purchase. Many thanks to The Early Music Shop. On a side note, I am so happy with this alto, I just ordered the Plumwood Dream Edition Soprano.

I’m a newbie and wanted to treat myself to a lovely wooden recorder. Like a pixie! This recorder is not what I thought I’d go for at all. Having tried a couple of others, I did have an ollivander’s moment when I tried this one. It is so lovely that I have had to give it a name. Ophelia!! I’m learning about how to play in and take care of a wooden recorder and I’ve a long way to go, but, the sound is sweet, clear and true. I can tell that it has an enormous, powerful sound which I will be able to use when I’ve learned enough. It’s tactile, beautiful, light and just feels right. I love it.
