Recorder31 Day 30 | Team Recorder's Sarah Jeffery Compares Modern Altos
It's the penultimate day of this year's Recorder31 – we may be reaching the end, but we're far from slowing! Today's post features one of the biggest online stars of the recorder world, Team Recorder's Sarah Jeffery, who has created a brand new video especially for Recorder31!
Today's video sees Sarah comparing a range of contemporary alto recorders, demonstrating the modernisations which their makers have added, and the changes in sound that result. It's a fascinating video and shows that the world of recorder making is an innovative and growing scene. Have a watch below!
The instruments featured in Sarah's video are:
- Mollenhauer Modern Alto in Grenadilla with E-Foot
- Moeck Ehlert Alto in Grenadilla
- Küng E3 Alto Recorder in Grenadilla
- Mollenhauer Helder Evo Alto in Grenadilla
- Eagle Alto Recorder in Grenadilla by Adriana Breukink
All of these instruments (excluding the Eagle by the late Adriana Breukink) are currently available from The Early Music Shop: follow the links by clicking on the instrument names above for more information, or click on the image below to explore a collection of instruments (including the different woods which are available in these models).

The Sound of Recorder Music!
Each day this month we're highlighting an audio clip of a recorder from our extensive range. If the modern altos aren't to your taste, how about a more traditional-style instrument of very high quality, such as this beautiful Fehr Model 5 Alto Recorder in stained European Boxwood. Listen to the clips below or follow this link to find out more about this instrument.
