The workhorse of the recorder world

I love my wooden sopraninos for solo and concerto playing, but this is my workhorse. It plays cleanly and accurately throughout its range with amazing intonation, especially with other sizes of recorder in the Aulos range. I've finally worn out my previous one (not totally worn out - the footjoint has become rather loose, but it still plays perfectly) after 20 years or so and there was never a debate about what would replace it. That works out at less than £1 a year for a sopranino that plays in tune. Bargain!

Aulos 507B Sopranino recorder

I live in Australia - perhaps I should have bought this Sopranino here because the postage was half the cost of the instrument! However, though I have only been playing the alto recorder since May 2022 therefore an addicted beginner I was encouraged to get a Sopranino by my recorder addicted brother because the ‘fingering is the same.’ They are but for my hands, pretty cramped… I am now enjoying learning two different recorders at the same time. All good for a 73 year olds brain, fingers and reading a new language 😁🐬

You can't beat an Aulos Sopranino

This is the third Aulos sopranino recorder I've owned (the other two got dropped on concrete floors and broke). Always in tune, always a sweet tone, I love it.

This review is rather late because, although the instrument arrived with commendable speed, I put it in quarantine for about 3 -4 weeks. I actually do not like the higher recorders, confining myself usually to treble, tenor and bass. I bought this because I wanted to play Pepusch's Chirping Warblers! I like my Aulos recorders - they sit nicely in the hand, have good tone and stay in tune even when played out of doors. This sopranino is no exception - a good buy, good value for money. Currently, because I find it tiny, my playing is probably mostly of interest to passing bats, but I shall persevere.
