A re-enactment medieval tabor with single snare, using only the best quality calf skins. The two skin heads are tied to a wooden frame with hemp rope. A hemp snare is tied to one head. The playing surface is about 8.5" and the drum is about 4.5" deep. Includes a stick.

Players usually hang the drum from the forearm while using one stick to strike the snared head. The tabor is suspended by a strap from the forearm, somewhere between the elbow and wrist.

Fine for the price; needs little "home improvement".

The heads are much too slack, with no provided means of tightening them, but this is easily corrected by tying some loops of garden twine or thin rope around pairs of the diagonal drum ropes. The loops can then be slid up or down to tighten or slacken the heads. The hand loop is orientated incorrectly, so the drum hangs from the pipe hand at the wrong angle, but again, this is easy to untie and re-tie correctly. The provided sticks are rather short and lightweight.

9 Inch Tabor Drum and Stick

A great starter drum and stick. Looks very traditional! Not too heavy and easy to hold with the attached hemp rope. Stick nicely balanced and together they produce a great sound. Muffle it for indoor practice as it is loud! Very happy with the purchase!
