As a beginner on the alto recorder (but not a beginner to making music), I am using the Sweetpipes method books for alto recorder (2 volumes) to learn the basic notes, to breathe, and to move my fingers a little, too. I bought the 3 volumes of The Modern Recorder Player by Walter van Hauwe on the recommendation of Sarah Jeffery, YouTube recorder star!!! The MRP books all look great, but right now I’m just using volume 1, which covers the basics of holding, fingering, breathing and articulation. MRPv1 has already yielded some real gold for me, e.g. in how to effectively finger the low f-sharp and low g-sharp to be able to play easily and rapidly (I’ll get there, I’m sure). v2 and v3 look great, too, but I’m not quite ready for them yet. The service from EMS and the Royal Mail was incredible — I ordered the 3 MRP volumes on August 28th and received them in Burlington, Ontario, Canada on September 10th. Bravo! and many thanks.
