It is no surprise that so many makers copy the superb instruments of P. Bressan. The original of this instrument, part of Edgar Hunt's private collection, is one of the finest examples of Bressan's work. Although the Hunt Bressan is pitched at a407, it has been possible to pitch ours at a415 with minimal changes from the original design. The full, rich tone colour and perfect intonation make this a recorder that almost plays itself, freeing the player to concentrate on the music. In the Kunsthistorische Museum of Vienna is an old renaissance recorder with a wide bore and a large flair in the bell. This instrument is believed to be similar to the instruments Sylvestro Ganassi may have used. The von Huene Ganassi recorders has a large bore like the Vienna instrument and will play the most demanding music of sixteenth and seventeenth century Italy. The bore shape is based on concepts that were developed in the Denner family workshop, in particular by Jacob Denner. The Denner family from Nuremberg were one of the most important and influential woodwind makers. Modern processes have made it possible to achieve a sound quality that was previously only a characteristic of low-pitch baroque instruments. Balanced and stable intonation across all the registers are the basis for the versatility of the refined sound. The characteristically direct voicing combines lightness and brilliance with focused airflow. An extensive amount of time is dedicated to crafting these exclusive instruments. Blezinger Ganassi soprano recorder in maple. In his tutor book on diminutions "La Fontegara", published in Venice in 1535, Sylvestro Ganassi describes how he succeeded in increasing the tonal range of recorder playing over the contemporary one and a half octave by using special fingerings. It is controversial if he alluded to a specific recorder type. Only very few instruments surviving from this period will play more than only one or two extra notes with the "Ganassi fingerings". The best known of these is an alto recorder in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna. Reconstructions of this recorder enable a range of much more than two octaves without difficulty. The typical construction of these recorders is the cylindrical bore with a wide conical bell at the bottom. They have a strong, stable sound which is clear and bright, particularly in the high register. Blezinger makes Ganassi recorders in 440 and 415 Hz. Kobliczek recorders are made by German maker Christoph Hammann and his team. These Renaissance recorders have large cylindrical bores which produce a characteristically strong tone.
