Recorder31 Day 27 | Recap our 60-Second Lessons

This year's new Recorder31 initiative, our 60-Second Lessons, have been running throughout the month on social media. Today, we thought we'd pull them all together to recap and share the inspiration of the brilliant players who shared one minute's worth of wisdom for you all.

We are also releasing this year's final 60-Second Lesson from widely-renowned player Piers Adams (Red Priest, Baroque Alchemy) on the subject of articulation – specifically syllables for double-tonguing patterns...

Earlier in the month...

Annabel Knight discussed how to make a great sound on the recorder:

Juho Myllylä showed us how to move with the dynamics of the voice when doubling the melody in medieval chant music:

Nura Natour demonstrated a method for tuning a recorder when playing with harpsichord:

Stefan Temmingh recommended a book on practice methods, 'Learn Faster, Perform Better' by Molly Gebrian:

Olivia Petryszak guided us through learning a simple melody by ear:

Erik Bosgraaf explained 'vertical practising', one of his methods for learning the music of Jacob Van Eyck:

Kate Allsop talked us through a number of tips for getting yourself out of a practice rut:

Jorge Isaac demonstrated the various methods for achieving a glissando on the recorder:

What have you learned from the 60-Second Lessons? We'd love to hear about your favourite moments in the comments below. Are there any players or topics you'd like to hear from if we were to repeat the 60-Second Lessons for a second series in next year's Recorder31?

Today we hear one of the most popular resin instruments in our range, the Zen-On G1A Alto. Modelled after a Bressan original, this instrument has a steady and stable tone with an even sound across the register. The G1A model is also available at a415 Baroque pitch along with the a440 model heard here. Check out the audio clips below or follow this link to find out more about this instrument.
