For the next 31 days we will be celebrating all things recorder with exclusive content, competitions, videos, and much more. Of course, we’ll be promoting instruments from The Early Music Shop’s catalogue throughout the month, so if you’re thinking of extending your recorder collection (or starting to play for the first time) we hope Recorder31 gives you the inspiration and encouragement to do so. Here’s a taster of what you can expect in the month to come…!
Building on the success of last year’s interviews, we will be releasing another series of four Side-By-Side Interviews. In this series, two recorder players interview each other about their careers, any current projects of interest, and just about anything else to do with the recorder! Just some of the names involved in this year’s interviews include top international players Lucie Horsch, Pierre Hamon, Tali Rubinstein and Stefan Temmingh, and more to be announced!
New for 2025! We are thrilled that some of our Recorder31 contributors, and other friends in the recorder world, have contributed to our series of sixty-second lessons. You’ll be amazed how much you can learn in just one minute! These videos will be released throughout the month on our social media accounts on Instagram, Facebook and TikTok, so get involved and let us know how the lessons are changing your playing!
We’re thrilled to be teaming up with some brilliant ambassadors for the recorder who will be covering some really wide-ranging and fascinating topics. Team Recorder’s Sarah Jeffery joins us for a video all about reconditioned recorders, while Heidi Fardell explores recorder music by female composers. We’ll also be sharing insights into the recorder-making process with more Featured Maker interviews.
Every Monday we’ll be launching a special competition and thanks to generous support from Aafab, Moeck, Mollenhauer and more, we have some amazing prizes up for grabs! Get your recorders at the ready, send us your entries and perhaps you’ll win yourself a brand new instrument!
Also new for 2025, we have three brilliant live events. Later TODAY, at 7pm BST we have our Recorder31 launch concert with Fora in the United Reformed Church in Saltaire – tickets available on the door, or watch online on our Instagram live feed. On Wednesday 6 August and Wednesday 27 August, our Informal Recital Series at our Snape Maltings shop continues with live music from Zephyr Baroque and Liz Page & The Delightful Companions. Both of these events are free to attend and no tickets are required!
Looking for advice on buying your next recorder? Not sure whether to oil your recorder? Want to discuss repairs or maintenance on your instruments? Why not book a 1:1 video call slot with one of our recorder specialists as part of our Online Recorder Clinic on Wednesday 20 August? Limited spaces are available so sign up to reserve your slot; reservations open Friday 8 August.
As ever, we’ll be highlighting recorders from The Early Music Shop’s range. Every weekend we will showcase one of the different sizes within the family and you’ll be able to get hold of an exquisitely-made new or reconditioned recorder for a brilliant price, with support from our specialist team in-store, on the phone and via email. Today we start the weekend promotions with Sopranos & Smaller – discover the collection here.
Gifts for the recorder players in your life, new releases since last year’s Recorder31, and a new Featured Album from celebrated recorder player Tabea Debus – all available and featured during Recorder31!
Join in the fun on social media with the hashtag #Recorder31 and check back on our website blog every day to immerse yourself in the festivities. We can’t wait to share it with you all!
The Sound of Recorder Music returns for 2025! Every day we will feature audio clips of an instrument from our range. Today, we highlight a top-end gem from our Sopranos & Smaller collection in this Ganassi Soprano in Maple by Blezinger. Based on instruments discussed in Ganassi’s 1535 treatise, this instrument is perfect for early Italian repertoire and other Renaissance music. Check out the audio clips below or follow this link to find out more about this instrument.
