Recorder31 | Friday Fun: Name the Wood!

We've reached another weekend, but first at Recorder31, it's time for a bit of Friday Fun! This week, we're testing your knowledge of the materials used in the manufacture of recorders!

Name the Wood Challenge!

We’ve taken close-ups of nine popular woods for recorders - but can you match the names of the woods with their photos? The nine distinctive grains are as follows:

  • Grenadilla
  • Olivewood
  • Boxwood
  • Plumwood
  • Cherrywood
  • Pearwood
  • Maple
  • Palisander
  • Rosewood

Stuck?! Why not browse The Early Music Shop’s website to see if the pictures there can help you match up the woods!

As a reminder, you can save on wonderful top-quality bass recorders this weekend in our 'Basses & Beyond' promotion. Click to save until Sunday 23:59PT!

The Sound of Recorder Music!

To tie in with this weekend's Basses & Beyond promotion, here's some sounds from one of our featured instruments. The Küng Superio Bass in Pearwood is a very popular choice owing to its strong projection, high-quality keywork and rounded tone. We have three in stock, but they don't usually hang around for very long! Listen to the clips below or follow this link to find out more about this instrument.
