Early Music @ 1 - Monday 27th April
Welcome to another week of Early Music @ 1! We're thrilled to have Jean Kelly back with us, in today's video she's playing two pieces on a beautiful pedal harp. Watch the video to learn what the pedals actually do! The pieces featured today are "Allemande" from J. S. Bach's French Suite No. 4 and a Welsh song called "Watching the Wheat" arranged by John Thomas.
Jean hails from an Irish family of several generations of professional musicians. She has been based in London since 1996, when she won a scholarship to study concert harp at the Royal College of Music. A versatile and pioneering musician, Jean has an eclectic career spanning classical, contemporary and world music. Jean specializes in classical, folk, medieval and wire strung harps. She has played harp on several film scores including 'The Lord of the Rings' and 'We need to talk about Kevin', scored for solo harp by Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead. Jean regularly performs with groups such as The Society of Strange and Ancient Instruments and you can find out about all upcoming performances on her website or on Twitter!
