Zen On G1A a=415 Bressan Alto Recorder

by Zen-On
10 reviews
£104.17 excluding VAT (UK Export Price)

The eagerly awaited Zen-On plastic at baroque pitch (a=415) is now available!

This alto recorder is designed after originals by Bressan by Japanese makers Takeyama and Hirao. It has a rich sound with lots of overtones and is very responsive. Like the modern pitch version, it has a brand new finger hole design allowing undercutting.

A perfect starting alto for anyone wanting to explore playing at baroque pitch or a great practice instrument!

A budget treble at A=415

I’m a self-confessed devotee or wooden recorders! Not that plastic recorders don’t sound good! Just that I much prefer the feel of wood. That being said I could not help buying this one, because of its unique place as the only budget recorder at A=415 ("baroque" pitch). It’s a great instrument, nicely balanced throughout most of its range, apart from a tendency for high e and f to be a bit shrill. It’s a good buy.

Zenon Bresson at a 415

A good puchase for anyone who needs a low pitch, low cost alto recorder. I have been comparing this one with my 35 year old Zen On Bressan alto at a 440. They both play well in tune and sound good. Perhaps the old one is slightly brighter in tone being higher pitch. I think it would have been nice to have stamped the 415 Bressan with the Pol Bressan mark, as on the 440 rather than a fleur-de-lys...

At last a plastic treble at A415

This was long overdue. Well done the Zen On chaps! Now, without forking out for a hand made wooden instrument, you can have an affordable plastic treble at A415 so you can play along with your viol consort chums. How does it play? Absolutely fine. Probably better than fine to be fair. If you like music at period pitch start giving out big hints for a Christmas present.

A useful practice instrument

I found the finger hole spacing for the right hand a little different from that on my wooden instruments, but soon adjusted to it. I will use it for practice, to spare my wooden instruments. Tone and responsiveness are satisfactory.

Zen on Bressan Baroque pitch

The item was delivered quickly and well packed in its fabric case. I found the instrument in perfect condition well greased in the joints. The sound is typical of Bressan models, with rich tones, a good extension and perfectly in tune. A 415hz alto recorder in plastic is an actual novelty, I took advantage of a promotion with some discount from the early music shop and I am satisfied. Excellent for doing a lot of practice in preparation of a performance, cause it has the advantage of being much lighter than a correspondent model in wood. I am very excited of this purchase, looking forward to exploring further the potential of the instrument and the beauty of its sound. Thanks for the service
