While there are recorder models that are played today based on the ideas of historical instrument makers such as Rottenburgh, Denner, Kynseker, Bressan and others, Sigo goes its own way.

Sigo is a recorder model series developed in collaboration between Kunath Instrumentenbau and Geri Bollinger, one of Europe's leading recorder makers.

The tenor instrument 5405-072 has almost the same grip width as a soprano (descant) recorder. The angled headjoint and the thumb rest integrated into the mould make Sigo particularly ergonomic.

The body is made of RESONA, a material developed by Kunath Instrumentenbau from renewable raw materials. The headjoint is made from plant-based resins.

As the Sigo scale is folded, the instrument sounds just as deep, although it is shorter than a normal tenor flute.

The matt surface of the lower body and the thumb rest integrated into the mould make the instrument exceptionally comfortable to play.

Sigo tenor recorder

I am 92 and have started to play my tenor recorder again, after several years of lapse. But my arthritic fingers could no longer reach the lower notes. The Sigo model solved the problem. I have now been able to join an early music ensemble. Thank you.

Good for the hands but the sound quality not up to the expectation for the price point

The concept is great however the sound quality in general is not great. Second octave notes often don't speak clearly, especially E. It would have been really handy to play the tenor in the alto size, as with the Sigo, but unfortunately it is more difficult to play it nicely. In fact, going back to a normal tenor after playing the Sigo makes the normal tenor feel easier (apart from the hand stretch).

Sigo tenor- just what I needed

Excellent instrument- I’ve started to have mobility and dexterity issues with my right hand, so the smaller stretch and built in thumb rest is perfect! Mellow tone, maintenance free plastic- all good. Needs a bit of puff, and a couple of notes need less/more air for accurate tuning

Sigo Tenor Recorder by Kunath

Perfect addition to my range of recorders. Super easy to play with no stretch when compared to my other tenor recorders. Still trying to get to the second octave notes A and above. Probably it’s just me as I struggle a bit with other tenor as well. I hope Kunath will make bass recorder with the same design one day.

A real revolution in recorder design and user-friendliness!

This is a great ensemble instrument to play in folk music sessions. It has enough carrying power to work with stringed instruments - even outdoors. A lot of air is needed with careful breath control required for good intonation. Finger positioning takes a little while to become familiar for the lower right-hand holes. Very comfortable, portable and light-weight- to play for a long time. I like the rough texture for easy grip but the finish around the tone holes could be improved. For cleaning I just rinse through well under a cold water tap about every other week or so and drain upside down in a dish rack - very easy. I also have a wide-bore double-keyed wooden tenor which cost about eight times this price and does sound better for solo recitals, which it should! However, the Sigo is great value for money and my choice for trad sessions when I want a lower range and am not leading a tune on a descant (soprano). An excellent innovation which should make tenors accessible to many more players, older and younger.
