While there are recorder models that are played today based on the ideas of historical instrument makers such as Rottenburgh, Denner, Kynseker, Bressan and others, Sigo goes its own way.

Sigo is a recorder model series developed in collaboration between Kunath Instrumentenbau and Geri Bollinger, one of Europe's leading recorder makers.

The tenor instrument 5405-072 has almost the same grip width as a soprano (descant) recorder. The angled headjoint and the thumb rest integrated into the mould make Sigo particularly ergonomic.

The body is made of RESONA, a material developed by Kunath Instrumentenbau from renewable raw materials. The headjoint is made from plant-based resins.

As the Sigo scale is folded, the instrument sounds just as deep, although it is shorter than a normal tenor flute.

The matt surface of the lower body and the thumb rest integrated into the mould make the instrument exceptionally comfortable to play.

Sensational Sigo

It feels like this tenor was designed and handmade just for me. I like the textured finish, the quirky green mouthpiece and the ergonomic finger hole spacing . It’s light, well-balanced, the sound is mellow, consistent throughout the range and it’s a joy to play. I can’t wait to try the next invention by Kunath, will it be a bass?

Sign Tenor Recorder by Kunath

I bought this recorder to fill in while my comfort Tenor is away. The Sigo is very light and ideal for anyone like me with arthritic hands. It doesn’t need blowing in and you can get the full two octaves easily. I took a while to train myself not to stretch my fourth finger as it’s very easy to reach the bottom hole. It has a pleasant sound and I’m really pleased with it. Obviously quite a popular instrument as I had to wait a long time to get it. I think it will mean older children can try a tenor earlier than they otherwise would, which in my opinion is a good thing.

Still Getting Used to It

There are so many things to like about the Sigo: fun, lightweight, the lack of stretch for the fingers. Beautiful low notes. It is a loud instrument - loud. It takes a lot - a lot! - of air; although promoted for children, I can't imagine them having enough air. According to my tuner and ear, I am often playing out of tune with the need to blow even harder or not, it's not an easy instrument to play in tune. The sound is sometimes fine and often less fine - thick sounding or some such, hard to describe but not always enjoyable, especially in the upper range. I've had it for a few weeks now, consider myself a high intermediate player, and willing to give it more time... however my duet sessions (we have two Sigos) are not enjoyable and it is a project to learn how to play the Sigo properly. Finally, two of the holes are rough and the other holes have a small but unattractive sanding spots. I expect to like the Sigo better as I get to know it more... picking up my Yamaha tenor feels so strange!

Sigo Tenor Recorder

I bought this to replace my two elderly tenor recorders which were heavy, causing my right wrist to ache during and after playing, and unreliable on the two lowest notes. So far I have been extremely pleased with the Sigo, which is light, has a good tone, and hasn’t yet faltered on those low notes. Excellent value for the price.
