While there are recorder models that are played today based on the ideas of historical instrument makers such as Rottenburgh, Denner, Kynseker, Bressan and others, Sigo goes its own way.

Sigo is a recorder model series developed in collaboration between Kunath Instrumentenbau and Geri Bollinger, one of Europe's leading recorder makers.

The tenor instrument 5405-072 has almost the same grip width as a soprano (descant) recorder. The angled headjoint and the thumb rest integrated into the mould make Sigo particularly ergonomic.

The body is made of RESONA, a material developed by Kunath Instrumentenbau from renewable raw materials. The headjoint is made from plant-based resins.

As the Sigo scale is folded, the instrument sounds just as deep, although it is shorter than a normal tenor flute.

The matt surface of the lower body and the thumb rest integrated into the mould make the instrument exceptionally comfortable to play.

The marvellous SIGO tenor recorder!

I absolutely LOVE my Sigo tenor recorder. It is small and light, all in one piece, fits easily into my backpack or a largish handbag, and sounds wonderful! I could choose to play my ebony Rottenburgh tenor (low C or C# difficult for my aging hands), or the beautiful Renaissance tenor with a fontanelle (no low C#) - or even my placcie Yamaha - but I find myself playing my Sigo for fun, for teaching, and even for performing! Low C, C#, D and D# all fine, even for my arthritic fingers! (It’s taking a few weeks to get used to the unusual placement of those holes). The only thing I need to think about is to blow it clean more frequently than usual. My colleagues are very interested in it, and love having a go! Congratulations, Kunath! Are you contemplating making a 3D-printed small bass???

3D printed witchcraft

I recently acquired a decent alto recorder, the range of which doesn’t lend itself to pub session music. The tenor I found too great a stretch, so I traded in the alto for the Sigo model which allows me to play the repertoire of the Irish low D whistle with a comfortable finger-stretch. It also means I can learn alongside (soprano) beginners in our U3A class without having separate tuition on the naughty step.

Great value purchase

It's comfortable to use, with thumb support. It's lightweight, and has a good time

I love my Sigo tenor recorder

I have small arthritic hands and find the Sigo tenor very easy to play. I love the hole spacing and the built-in thumb rest. The sound is generally very pleasant, although I have to work hard on the higher notes.

Sigo tenor Recorder

This is an excellent recorder for me. As I have become older and my hands are affected by arthritis, this recorder is a lifesaver. It is light and relieves the stress of supporting the weight of a tenor recorder. The back thumb support distributes the lighter weight of the instrument across a larger part of the thumb. The hole spacing and positioning are extremely comfortable for fingers. The texture of the surface of the recorder makes it easy to grip. While it might not win a prize for beauty, the sound is very pleasing. I think it will extend by many, the years that I continue to play the wonderfully mellow tenor recorder.
