A useful compromise string

Pros: It doesn't grunt like a thick plain gut C string. It's very playable in higher positions, and in 1st position, E and F are very nice mellow alternatives to using the E string. You don't have to radically change pressure when crossing between this C string and the G string. Cons: It's very smooth, almost slippery, and the bow doesn't "bite" it, so louder dynamics and brighter timbres are hard to get.
