Perfect for a beginner like me

I find the recorder very pleasant sounding, not at all shrill. I probably have not explored anything like the full tonal range but all of the notes seem effortless to me. I’d compare playability favourably with my plastic aulos sopranos. Except that the tone holes are even more comfortable, due to seeming a little closer together. The tuning seems to my ear to be rock solid, more experienced players might consider this somewhat less flexible, but I bought this model for recording (excuse pun) hoping for this very characteristic. Being far from a virtuoso I find the consistent ability to produce the desired notes without unwanted deviation (down to my underdeveloped technique) confidence inspiring. I expect this recorder to require fewer “takes” as a result to produce the sounds that I’m intending. Despite the solid nature of the intonation when playing, I don’t feel at this stage in my recorder journey to be stymied at all in terms of expression. Because I find the tome quite beautiful. Even if I “progressed” to a more “advanced” model in future, I can’t see myself letting go of the “student soprano” for the reasons given. I would expect that it would remain useful to me, I am really quite taken with it for now, so I’m not expecting to be looking for an upgrade in the near future.

Pearwood descant recorder

I thoroughly enjoy playing my new wooden recorder. I had promised myself one for years and now that I am semi-retired from music teaching it is the ideal time to pick up this skill from my primary school days! I have ordered lots of music and look forward to getting stuck in properly. I love the superior sound of wood over plastic, more more satisfying to play, and so much more expressive.
