We are delighted to have Sarah Jeffery review for us the latest addition to Mollenhauer's range of tenor recorders: the Denner Knick Comfort Tenor in Cherrywood. Watch her video below.

The Mollenhauer Denner Knick Comfort Tenor is made of European cherrywood. This beautifully grained wood is lighter in weight than other woods, which is ideal for the tenor recorder. This lightness combined with the knick and comfort keys makes this one of the easiest tenors to play on the market. The lightness of the wood is not reflected in the sound as it produces a direct tone with an amazing depth of resonance. It is a robust and flexible instrument, with a clear upper octave and stable low notes.

This recorder comes with a hard case, cleaning rod and cloth, adjustable thumb rest, neck strap, oil, cork grease, fingering chart and maintenance instructions.

  • Baroque fingering
  • Comfort keys (C/C#, F and G keys)
  • Knick head joint (bent neck)
  • Adjustable thumb rest
  • 3-piece
  • Made of cherrywood
  • Oil included for maintenance
  • Pitch: a´= 442 Hz
  • Includes hard case, cleaning rod, neck strap, cork grease and fingering chart
  • 3 year warranty

Mollenhauer's Denner series has been developed after original instruments of Jacob Denner (1681-1735) based in Nuremberg and Copenhagen. The Denner series won the highly acclaimed German Music Instrument award in 1999.

Mollenhauer Denner Comfort Knick Tenor Recorder in Cherrywood

The tenor is a beautiful instrument. The keys are perfect as is the knick part of the tenor. There is a slight wobble when I join the lower two parts of the instrument and have to ensure they are well and truly joined together properly but once this is done the instrument plays well. the tone of the recorder is mellow and sweet.

Mollenhauer Denner Comfort Knick Recorder

I am very happy with my Comfort Knick Tenor Recorder. I always avoided the tenor line as I had difficulty with stretch, having small hands., It is perfect for small hands. I am now enjoying playing the tenor line.

Mollenhauer Denner Comfort Tenor Cherrywood

This is a beautiful instrument! It is beautiful in appearance with the grain of the cherrywood. The tone quality is wonderful - the lower notes especially have a warm, deep quality. The knick and neck strap combined with the lightness of the cherrywood make it easy to hold. It is just such a delight and so easy to play, especially in the mid and lower registers. I am still learning what it needs in terms of thumb pinch for some of the highest notes! I can highly recommend it.

A lovely instrument!

So easy to play and a delightful tone. The additional keys make stretching so much easier since the onset of arthritis and now I can play the tenor again.

Approval & Purchase

Fantastic service. There was a lead time on the instrument and communication was efficient and timely. The tenor is a lovely instrument, mellow and rich sound. Having to be so controlled to limit my playing time whilst playing it in. Seems to have good range in the upper register. Would recommend
