New to the range and much more than just a visual statement. The impressive colouring of the wood species Amaranth gives it its informal name, “purpleheart”. A unique eye-catcher with excellent material properties that are ideal for recorder making.

Amaranth originates from South America and is characterized by its exceptional stability. As a hard wood with a density of approx. 0.85 g/cm³, it produces a warm yet radiant sound rich in overtones.

Amaranth recorders are suitable for a wide range of musical purposes. Whether solo or in an ensemble, Rottenburgh recorders made of amaranth are true all-rounders and are the instruments of choice for anyone who loves the exceptional and wants to express musicality in a variety of ways!

Rottenburgh Series
Immensely popular range of recorders originally designed by Friederich von Huene after models by Belgian maker Jean-Hyacinth-Joseph Rottenburgh (1672-1756). Versatile, reliable and used by all levels of players who enjoy instruments made to consistently high standards. They are without doubt the world's most successful recorder series and remain one of our best sellers. The Rottenburgh is the instrument of choice for those recorder players who wish to play music at an advanced level. It is a reliable instrument with a carrying tone, whether played in small or large ensembles. It also lends itself perfectly for solo pieces, e.g. for sonatas with basso continuo. The Rottenburgh is the ideal all rounder: reliable, balanced and with a full tone. Depending on the wood it has a warm full sound for ensemble playing and is beautifully clear and expressive as a solo instrument.

This 4429 tenor with double keys is made from Amaranth, commonly known as Purpleheart which is a stunning Latin American hardwood (genus Peltogyne) prized for its vibrant, deep purple colour. It is a very hard, dense, and durable wood, specific gravity 0.86.
