"Tombeau pour Monsieur Rihm is a tribute to the recently deceased composer Wolfgang Rihm and is written for solo Viola da Gamba. The piece is a diptych consisting of two separate sections that flow seamlessly into each other. Wolfgang Rihm is known for his expressive music, which he often wrote in a very intuitive manner. As a composer who works in a highly structured and mathematical way without compromising expression, I have incorporated this contrast into the diptych." – from Matijs de Roo's programme note
