This garklein is made of palisander which has earthy soundnotes. The recorder is in baroque fingering and has a wide bore. The STUDIO garklein recorder is not a children's recorder, it is rather designed for advanced players. It has a strong, penetrating sound and is popular as a special effect in an ensemble or as a recorder to produce bird sounds.

Küng's Studio series has proven to be popular with all levels of players providing a high quality instrument at a reasonable price. They have a full sound, balanced tone, and a good, easy response in all registers. Their clear, warm sound is well-suited for ensemble playing.

This garklein recorder comes complete with canvas bag, fingering chart and maintenance instructions.

Better than I expected

I had seen reviews of various Garklein recorders and many found them too difficult to play. I like a challenge, so I bought one. I actually found this recorder to be easy to learn to play. It has a very even tone on all notes and the holes are spaced far enough apart to allow playing without too many issues.

A beautifully-crafted instrument and an interesting lock-down challenge

I have been playing recorders for all of 54 years, but never before tried the smallest of the recorder family. The garklein poses an interesting challenge for adult fingers, but, as always, practice makes perfect (or will do soon!) Breath-control is less problematic, and it does not take long for the experienced recorder-player to produce a pleasing and secure tone. The Palisander wood exudes a delightful scent and is a joy to behold with its rich dark hues. I'm glad I treated myself!
