Clavichord by Richard Taylor, 2011. One of five of this design made by Richard Taylor.
“Mine is working as beautifully as ever, thank you”
Steven Devine
This clavichord is a copy of a 1620 South Netherlands instrument, once property of late Dr. Roger Mirrey, and now in the Russell Collection, Edinburgh.
Music at the time did not require F sharp and G sharp in the bass, and organ builders saved expensive pipe and action work by leaving them out. Makers of other keyboard instruments followed suit and this clavichord is tuned with a shortened bass octave.
The Fretting means that the temperament is built-in by the tangent positions, but can be altered by tangent adjustment. Presently set at Meantone. For more details about this or any other instrument, please do not hesitate to contact us.
