Triple Fretted Clavichord by Richard Taylor, 2024
Clavichord by Richard Taylor, specially commissioned in 2024. One of five of this design made by Richard Taylor. The instrument is currently a 'table-top' clavichord, however a stand can be made, if required.
“Mine is working as beautifully as ever, thank you”
Steven Devine
This clavichord is a copy of a 1620 South Netherlands instrument, once property of late Dr. Roger Mirrey, and now in the Russell Collection, Edinburgh.
Music at the time did not require F sharp and G sharp in the bass, and organ builders saved expensive pipe and action work by leaving them out. Makers of other keyboard instruments followed suit and this clavichord is tuned with a shortened bass octave.
