A sonata in four movements from the late French baroque (1773) for solo bass viol with a second bass as accompaniment; keyboard continuo can be extemporized ad lib from a figured bass, but the music is complete with two basses.

In this edition J. S. Bach's Three-Part Inventions have been arranged for 3 Viols (TrTB). The 14 Inventions are presented in two volumes. The note values of all but one of the fourteen arrangements have been doubled to assist consort violists more accustomed to those encountered in 17th century fantasias. However, these pieces will stretch the abilities of most players, with their long notes succeeded by short note passages, frequent chromatic themes, leaps, and notes covering the entire range of each instrument. These seven works by the Spanish masters Cabezon, Milan, de Soto, Bruna, Cabanilles, Xarava and Anon make excellent viol consorts, arranged from the four voices of the original organ tablatures. Mainly for instruments SATB, the alto and tenor parts are provided in both treble and alto clefs to suit a variety of instruments.
