  • Haddock 6 Course Renaissance Lute after Hieber

    Stephen Haddock
    £2,150.00
We've commissioned Stephen Haddock to produce an exclusive range of inexpensive lutes that are suitable for beginners and more advanced players. He has produced a handmade collection of 6, 7 and 8-course lutes based on an original by Giovanni Hieber. Hieber was a luthier active at the end of the 16th century in Venice. One of his 7-course lutes survives and is in Musical Instrument Museum in Brussels. It has been widely copied by today's luthiers as its string length of 59cm makes it perfect for lutes in G without much modification. Stephen uses a variety of woods and materials for this 6-course lute. They are typically made of: Back - London Lacewood Plane Neck & Pegbox: Cherrywood Bridge & Fingerboard: Plumwood Pegs & Button: Boxwood Nut: Bone Soundboard: Alpine Spruce Finish: Oil Varnish Strings This lute has a string length of 595mm and is strung in unison with Aquila Nylgut strings. For replacement strings view the stringing chart for Haddock's instruments. Case This lute is sold without a case. There are several cases available as extras: Padded Bag Semi-Rigid Gig Case Fitted Hard Case by Kingham Lute Society Publications Books & CDs - including CDs by Jacob Heringman
