Comments from Shigeharu Hirao and Hiroyuki Takeyama

Recorders have undergone many improvements over a long period of time since the Renaissance, through the Baroque era, when they attained their present form. Baroque original instruments, including and represented by Bressan's, are regarded as the most exquisite intruments even today and that is our opinion too. This means that for this model G-1A, how faithfully we reproduce the original is the key aim. In order to acheive this aim, the degree of perfection and integrity of the original recorder that we based its design on are the vital factors - above all, it has to have a stable sound.

We believe that this newly developed G-1A is the best modern Bressan model that we can hope for, with all our experience and knowledge poured into it.

Generally nice, but a couple of let downs

I bought this after buying an A415 version for my son, who likes it very much. I thought this might make a useful backup for my trusty Yamaha YRA-312BII. And so it does, but only up to a point. From low A to top C it's fine, but the lower end is difficult to get to sound and the top notes are hard to get in tune without squealing. That's probably curable with practice. A much worse problem is constant clogging of the windway: I've never met a recorder of any size or of any material to prone to blocking up. Even after warming up I find it still need blown out, vigorously, every thirty seconds at most. It's not just an on-off problem: notes start degrading for some time before it clogs up. So overall, it's OK for shorter pieces and usefully louder than the Yamaha but not, in my hands anyway, suitable for extended passages unless they contain tactfully spaced rests for a good blow. The Yamaha is a far better instrument. Note; The A415 model doesn't seem to have the clogging issue. Perhaps the slightly larger dimensions make a difference.

Alto Recorder

Ordered from Early Music after I had read reviews, and I wasn't disappointed. Prompt service, no fuss and received well packaged. New to the recorder, I'm 66 years old and loving every minute of learning. Wonderful alto recorder such a lovely sound, I'm very pleased. Thank you.

Good for Practising

Good points: Great tone for a plastic instrument. Loud and responsive. Bad points: Tuning is not so good at the bottom end. Windway is very prone to clogging, compared to both wooden and other plastic models. Overall, fine for solo practice, but not really suitable for performances or ensemble work. By way of comparison, the plastic Aulos 709W Haka has a slightly larger stretch for right-hand fingers and worse tone, but it doesn't clog and is better in tune.

Zen-On G1A Bressan Alto Recorder

The recorder is perfect for the beginner\intermediate player. I am a beginner. Maintenance is easy and the intonation appears to be spot on. This is the top of the range of the plastic models and I have nothing but praise for it.

Good Recorder

Nice recorder with clarity on high notes. I did however find the low g and f a bit difficult but I guess this will change once I get used to the instrument and practice.
