The Silverwood flute is in the key of D and has a tuneable hardwood head combined with an aluminium body to give all the advantages of more expensive wooden flutes, but at a much more affordable price.

The wooden head on the Silverwood flute is crafted to give players the authentic feel and sound of a wooden head joint based on the famous Rudall Rose flutes much loved by players of Celtic music. The aluminium body has a couple of great advantages.  It is of course very robust and has a nice bright tone, but since it is of a smaller diameter than a wooden flute, the finger holes are much more easily reached by players with smaller hands.  The finger holes are also set out on the flute with smaller hands in mind. A great choice as a starter flute, or as a keyless flute to have in your gig bag.

This flute has a boxwood head and blue body.  It comes with a simple bag and a tube of grease to keep the joint between the head and body lubricated.

LIMITED EDITION Silverwood Flute – Boxwood Head, Blue Body

Early Music Shop has served me well again. My Silverwood flute arrived promptly and hassle free on the other side of the world. Great folk instrument. Two and a half octaves wrap around the D Feadóg Soprano Whistle I use with our Fiery Peak Morris Dancers here in NZ/Aotearoa. Check out the Matt Dean YouTube review to hear the flute in action..

Silverwood flute: beautiful!

I’m on the EMS email list and I received a notification that you could buy a Silverwood flute with all proceeds going to the Ukraine appeal. I had never heard of Silverwood flutes but wanted to donate to the appeal so I bought one. It arrived yesterday and I really could not be more impressed! It’s gorgeous! The wooden headjoint is beautifully made, the flute is light and comfortable, and the tone is warm, clear and strong. It comes with a very nice carry bag. It’s a lovely flute and I highly recommend it.

Silverwood Flute

I would say I'm an improver on the flute and I play a lot of traditional dance music, a lot of which is played in the keys of D and G, so being able to play in obscure keys is not so important for me. I have various antique simple system wooden flutes, which are lovely but can be delicate and are often designed for different pitch standards. I was looking for something modern and robust to take to sessions and I'm very glad I stumbled across this flute! It is delightfully simple - no keys to deal with - and I can reach the lower holes easily. Yay! At last - a keyless flute for smaller hands! It completely makes up for all those low whistles where I can't reach. The appearance is striking and you have a choice of colours. The wooden head joint gives it the feel of a traditional flute and a robust sound and the instrument speaks easily over its range. The tuning is excellent - far easier than playing any of my vintage flutes. If you don't need keys and are after something with a manageable reach and lots of other good qualities, you really should consider this.
