Recorder player and educator Heidi Fardell has a passion for researching and presenting female composers and historical figures who have influenced the world of recorder music. Together with her ensemble, Sounds Historical, she has put together a programme entitled 'More than a Woman' which takes audiences on a journey through influential women and their legacy on music: "from patrons to poets, printers to publishers and composers, students and scribes".
Watch the video here to find out more about Heidi's specialism in this interesting and important subject:
With support from the Continuo Foundation, Sounds Historical will be touring 'More than a Woman' in September and October, with performances in Sutton Coldfield, Coventry, Salisbury, Merevale and Charlbury. Tickets are available from their website: click here.
Heidi is also running a crowdfunder for her album about Jeanne Roger, set to be released later this year. Click here to find out more.
Heidi also discusses the Banbury Early Music Festival, and The Early Music Shop will be returning to exhibit at the festival's second edition this September - see you there!

Featured in this weekend's Altos promotion is the Mollenhauer Denner Alto in Grenadilla. This dense-wood instrument has a direct and pure tone without the overtones of the fruit woods, making it well-suited to a range of contexts including solo work. The Denner range remains a very popular model across our catalogue. Check out the audio clips below or follow this link to find out more about this instrument.
