Recorder31 Day 1 | Competition Time!

Recorder31 Day 1 | Competition Time!

Welcome to this year's Recorder31. It's the fourth annual edition of our month-long celebration of all things recorder, and we're delighted to have you along for the ride. Make sure you follow us on FacebookTwitter and Instagram so you don't miss any of our daily offerings, and use the hashtag #Recorder31 to join in the fun!

Today we launch the festivities with an exciting chance to WIN five Triebert plastic recorders!

We want you to get creative!

This year, we have been marking 400 years since the death of English composer William Byrd. For this week's competition, we're giving you the basic melody "A Gigg", published as number 181 in the Fitzwilliam Virginal Book.

Click here to view/download the melody for Byrd's "A Gigg".

Of course, this tune was originally written for a keyboard instrument! So here's your challenge: we want to see your creativity in making it a piece for recorder. Maybe you'll write a set of variations or divisions on the tune. Maybe you'll arrange it for a recorder consort. Or maybe you'll take your recorder to an unusual location to film yourself playing the melody. The more creative, the better!

Send us a video of your performance by email to finn@earlymusicshop.com, or upload it to social media and tag us @earlymusicshop using the hashtag #Recorder31. Entries close next Monday 7 August!

The lucky winner will receive a consort of five recorders by Triebert: a garklein, a sopranino, a soprano, an alto and a tenor! Finished in matt black plastic, these high-quality instruments deliver a rich body of sound, while providing the convenience of durable, maintenance-free resin.
