Early Music @ 1 - Monday 20th April
Welcome to another week of Early Music @ 1! Today's video features beautiful medieval lute music performed by Arngeir Hauksson. Watch the video to find out about early lutes, and their ancestor, the oud! The pieces featured are "Los Set Gotxs" from the Llibre Vermell de Montserrat, "Trotto", and "Bon Jour, Bon Moi" by Guillaume Dufay.
Arngeir started his musical career in a punk rock band when he was a teenager in Reykajvik. He discovered early music when he was singing madrigals in his college choir and got his first lute. Arngeir did his post-graduate training on the guitar and lute at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London and now plays medieval, renaissance, baroque and newly written music with many leading UK period instrument ensembles and orchestras. He has worked in theatres all over the world and his playing can be heard on soundtracks of films and TV series. Watch out for more videos about plucked instruments coming up in the next few weeks!
