Eric Moulder Renaissance Tenor Shawm In C. The design for the shawm by Eric Moulder is based upon one which can be clearly seen in a painting by Hans Memling c.1480 in Najera, Spain. Shawms were originally thought to have been developed from the middle eastern zurna with the shawm first appearing in Europe around the 13th century. Renaissance shawms tend to be much louder than Spanish shawms due to the size of the bore and large bell.

New tenor shawm

Nice instrument - in tune with itself and *almost* a full two octave range (haven't found a good fingering for high C yet). It required a bit more work on my part to fashion a suitable reed than the alto shawm did, and I can probably do better. Here's a link to a video with the two shawms that I posted on FB -
