Beautiful Lute

This lute is amazing! It sounds so lovely, the sound just sings from the instrument.

Excellent quality

I recently visited the early music shop to try out a few lutes. The lutes I tried where £2000 upwards. They are good but the 7 course early music lute was really good. For the price it's really well made, comfortable to play. The action and spacing of the strings are excellent and it sounds great. Well worth the money, plus the case, spare nylgut strings and a membership for the lute society. I love playing this instrument. This is a great instrument and great value for money.

EMS Heritage 7 Course Renaissance Lute after Hieber

Recently I purchased the above lute, I should say ham a professional lute player and own a number of hand build lutes. I know about Lutes. I ordered this Lute for a specific gig I have playing often outside for a museum. I will be using it for hours of work and constant playing. My previous Renaissance Lute was smashed and broken and I needed something quickly and a Lute that could do the job but didn’t need to be of a particularly high standard. So I ordered the above Lute, as soon as I opened the box and pull her out I was surprised. The quality was way beyond what I was expecting but the real surprise was how she played. This is a delightful instrument that has become my primary instrument that I chose to play everywhere when I need a Renaissance Lute. It is better than some Lutes I have played at twice the price. So I recommend this Lute very strongly indeed it is much better than I every could have imagined! I should say that once my previous Lute was broken I immediately rang EMS to order and it arrived the very next day.

Guitarist new to the Lute

Ordered this Lute on line; it arrived in good condition. I tuned the Lute up and snapped the top G string - contacted The Early Music Shop - sent me a new string and gave me some tips on restring the Lute without breaking it; thanks it is now working. A well made instrument and a good Lute as a start.

A very nice instrument

I was a little apprehensive, because this was the third lute-bodied instrument I ordered during the 2020-21 lock-downs, one (from Thomann) having arrived smashed owing to casual packaging. But, as we say now, 'No Worries'! The semi-rigid case provided with this option did its job. I haven't played a lute before - I play the harpsichord - but the first thing to say is that this lute is beautiful. Very beautiful. Moving on from that, and I have only had it for a week, it is not just a play-it-out-of-the-box product. I had to wait a few weeks for mine, but that gave me time to read the stuff on the Lute Society's website. I used that time to buy a tutor book (Poulton) and to buy some peg paste (Lapelar). Both worth it. I am probably not the ideal lute customer..I played rugby in my youth and I have quite a number of 'iregularities' in what, by C16th standards, would be regarded as big hands. But by watching Jacob Heringsman, Martin Shepherd and others on YouTube, I have managed to find, in my first week, a position for my lovely new lute, where I can stop all the courses, without blocking the adjacent ones. So, unhesitatingly recommended, but don't think you will be playing 'Flow My Tears' in a fortnight! There is quite a bit to do before then.
