Immensely popular range of recorders originally designed by Friederich von Huene after models by Belgian maker Jean-Hyacinth-Joseph Rottenburgh (1672-1756). Versatile, reliable and used by all levels of players who enjoy instruments made to consistently high standards. They are without doubt the world's most successful recorder series and remain one of our best sellers. The Rottenburgh is the instrument of choice for those recorder players who wish to play music at an advanced level. It is a reliable instrument with a carrying tone, whether played in small or large ensembles. It also lends itself perfectly for solo pieces, e.g. for sonatas with basso continuo. The Rottenburgh is the ideal all rounder: reliable, balanced and with a full tone. Depending on the wood it has a warm full sound for ensemble playing and is beautifully clear and expressive as a solo instrument.

The 4404 keyless tenor is made from boxwood (Castello boxwood Venezuela) - even grain and density. Specific density 0.80. Clean, round tone.

This recorder comes with a hard case, cleaning rod and cloth, cork grease, fingering chart and maintenance instructions.

This Rottenburgh recorder also comes with a free Moeck Z0002 maintenance set (recorder oil, oil brush, anti-condensant, paintbrush, maintenance manual).

A pleasing, reliable instrument

I bought this tenor primarily to use as a voice flute at 392. Although it is still in the playing-in phase, I am impressed with its reliable and flexible tone, and it manages the flute sonatas from the Handel ‘op 1’ with style and ease. It has an especially rich tone on the bottom, half hole notes. I do think, though, that the Moeck trade mark (in a brown/red colour) is unnecessarily, and unattractively prominent. The firm’s Stanesby and Steenbergen instruments have the original makers’ marks stamped on the front, and Moeck’s own mark stamped above the thumb hole, a much more pleasing solution. The EMS staff were their usual friendly and efficient selves, even in these sad and distracted times. Anthony Noble
